About Us
From 1944 until the late 1960s, owner and founder Lou Mundo ran the company and helped cultivate and pioneer the first automatic car wash brush - a wooden core brush with a natural Tampico fiber. Universal Brush is noted for developing most of the standard brushes that are still used throughout the industry, including the wrap-around, rocker panel, windo, monster roof, hitch-hiker, and hub cap.
In the 1950s, Universal Brush helped develop and patent the first x-shaped plastic filament used in the automatic car wash industry, which bore the trademark name of “Unilon.” Today, this x-shaped filament is still widely used throughout the car, bus truck, and train wash industries worldwide. During Lou‘s son and successor Richard Mundo‘s tenure in the 1980s, Universal Brush worked with textile manufacturers to help test and develop the Soft Cloth material that became the industry standard.
Under the leadership of Lou Mundo‘s grandsons, John and Kevin Mundo, Universal Brush continues to help the car wash industry evolve by introducing its latest car wash material, “Universal Foam.” This light, closed-cell foam material is soft, flexible, and extremely durable, offering car wash operators a softer, less aggressive car washing alternative. In addition, Universal Brush continues its tradition of customer satisfaction - a mainstay behind everything the company does, the reason it exists today, and the foundation of its future growth.
